Lalita Niwas case: CIB arrests two more

Kathmandu, July 3: Nepal Police’s CIB today arrested two more people for their involvement in the land embezzlement case of Lalita Niwas.

According to Dinesh Acharya, Senior Superintendent of Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) of the Nepal Police, the arrested are the then non-gazetted employee Ramesh Kumar Pokharel and Dev Narayan Maharjan.

The police also arrested three people on Sunday. Police arrested Ward Secretary Shivji Bhandari, surveyor Ghaman Kumar Karki and tiller Baburam Maharjan on Sunday. Recently, CIB has arrested nine people in this case.

Former Election Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Shah, Bhatbhateni Supermarket owner Min Bahadur Gurung, former government employees Dharma Prasad Gautam and Gopal Karki were arrested in this case.

The CIB is investigating the case after it was found that Lalita Niwas in Baluwatar, which was owned by the government, was registered in the names of different people from 2049 to 2069 BS.

Earlier, the bureau had submitted a report with its opinion to the district attorney’s office after making 300 people defendants. But the public prosecutor’s office sent the file back stating that further investigation was needed.
