‘Land related commission to be formed within a month’

Balaram Adhikari

Kathmandu, Sept 16: Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Balram Adhikari has promised to form a commission within a month to solve the problem of the landless squatters.

While addressing the 11th General Assembly of the Asian Farmers’ Association here today, he informed that the ministry has prepared to amend the law for the formation of the commission within a month. The minister said that the country will not progress unless the farmers are upgraded.

“We are trying to make the policy better and implement it in practice. As the effects of climate change have been greatly impacting the agricultural sector, there is a need to work on climate resilience,” he said.

Stating that the right to food is becoming a challenge due to the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector, Minister Adhikari said that work is being done to implement this right, which is provided for in the constitution.

He emphasized that since many countries in Asia are involved in agriculture, the farmers of all countries should be organized and raise their voice for the sustainable development of this region.

Representatives of 22 farmer-related organizations from 19 countries are participating in the two-day general meeting.

On that occasion, it was informed that the general meeting will select the new leadership of the association.  A five-day training will also be organized in Nagarkot after the general meeting.
