Baitadi, Dec 13: The Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Centre at Patan in the district has been without a veterinary doctor for over a year, resulting in the absence of specialized livestock health services.
Chief of the Hospital, Gumani Dutta Panta, shared that the Office was not able to fill the vacant post for a veterinary doctor for a year, adversely affecting the service delivery of the livestock in the locality.
The office runs under the Ministry of Land Management and Agriculture Cooperatives in Sudurpaschim Province. The Hospital which has seven posts for technical human resources including a veterinary doctor is currently operating with only one Livestock Development Officer and a technician in total.
Panta further shared the plight that lack of specialized doctor had hindered the services such as identification or diagnosis of diseases in animal, health certification, lab and surgeries among others. He further explained that medical certification of goat, sheep, buffalo and other cattle ferried out of the district has been prevented in absence of the doctor. The prolonged absence has increased the risk of smuggling of livestock to outside of the district, he cautioned. #nepal #livestock
