Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chaudhary takes oath of office and secrecy



Dang, April 28: Newly appointed Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary has taken oath of office and secrecy on Friday. According to Article 172 of the Constitution, the Province Chief Amik Sherchan administered the oath to Chaudhary.

On Thursday, Province Chief Sherchan appointed Chaudhary as the Chief Minister in accordance with Article 168 of the Constitution.

CPN (UML) parliamentary party leader Lila Giri, who led the government with the support of parties including CPN (Maoist Centre), after the majority rejected the motion of confidence presented in the provincial assembly for the second time last Monday, the government led by him collapsed.

After failing to get a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly, the Provincial Chief Sherchan called on the parties to claim the government by 4 pm on Thursday.

Earlier, Chief Minister Lila Giri received 57 votes in his favor for the first time, however the second time on Monday he managed to garner only 33 votes, and 53 votes were in opposition. So he had to resign from Chief Minister.

The newly appointed Chief Minister Chaudhary proposed for the Chief Minister on Thursday afternoon with the support of eight parties including CPN (Maoist Centre) and one independent provincial assembly member.

Chief Minister Chaudhary has the support of 53 MPs including 27 from the Nepali Congress, 11 from the Maoists, four from the Nagarik Unmukti Party and three each from the Janamat Party, Janata Samajwadi Party and Democratic Socialist Party, one each from the Rastriya Jana Morcha, CPN (Unified Socialist) and one independent MP.

The ruling coalition has also agreed to lead the government (Chief Minister) in a term basis. According to their understanding, Nepali Congress will lead the government in the first phase and CPN (Maoist Centre) will lead for the second term.

Three non-departmental ministers also took oath

Similarly, the newly appointed Chief Minister Chaudhary recommended for the appointment of three ministers in his cabinet in accordance with Article 168, Clause 9 of the Constitution.

On the recommendation of the Chief Minister , the Provincial Chief Sherchan appointed Santosh Pandey of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Dharma Bahadur Chaudhary of the Nagarik Unmukti Party and Dhan Bahadur Maski of the CPN-Maoist Centre as non-departmental ministers.

In accordance with Article 172 of the Constitution, Provincial Chief Sherchan administered the oath to the newly appointed ministers at the same ceremony today.
