Butwal, April 25: Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan has called for the formation of the new majority government according to Article 168, Clause 2 of the Constitution.
After Chief Minister Leela Giri failed to get a vote of confidence on Monday, Provincial Chief Sherchan again called for the formation of the government according to Article 2. Giri himself claimed to be appointed as the Chief Minister as CPN UML was the largest party in the Assembly.
After consultation with the Attorney General, Province Chief Sherchan has called for the formation of the government by gathering the opinions of 2 or more parties till 4 pm on April 27.
In the Lumbini Provincial Assembly, CPN UML has 29 MPs, Nepali Congress 27, CPN Maoist Centre 10, 4 each of RPP and Nagarik Unmukti Party, 3 each of Janamat Party, Janata Samajwadi Party and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, one each of National People’s Front and CPN (Unified Socialist) and one independent. There are 87 members in the Lumbini Provincial Assembly.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress and it’s coalition have demanded to Province Chief calling for the formation of majority government under Article 168(2) of the constitution.
