Madhesh Pradesh gives 30 days ultimatum for implementation of its rights



Janakpurdham, Nov 8: The Madhes province government has called upon the federal government to start substantial process for the implementation of rights guaranteed by the Constitution to the province related to police administration and law and order.

At a press conference held in the provincial capital Janakpurdham earlier today, Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav said that even though it has been eight years since the constitution was promulgated and six years since the formation of the province governments the exclusive powers enshrined in the constitution has not been delegated. Despite repeated drawing of attention, there has been no response and hence a deadline has been set.

“It has been six years since the province government came into being but the federal government is not ready to delegate the exclusive powers related to police administration “, Chief Minister Yadav said, “Despite repeated requests to the government and leaders formally and informally means there has been no response. Hence, we have come to the conclusion to wage a decisive struggle for it.”

Chief Minister Yadav shared as part of the protest in the first phase on Thursday morning all the ministers of the province, including himself, will submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in Kathmandu and that if the demand is not met within 30 days an all-party protest will be organised.

Important rights such as police adjustment, civil service act, forest, education, health etc. are still under the control of the centre. Despite repeated requests, no government has been responsive towards it.

The previous home minister went on a fast, the province government filed a case against the federal government before the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court but still there is no response despite the formation of the present government, he added.

All the ruling parties and the opposition CPN (UML) also have a consensus on this matter, Minister of Home, Communications and Law of the provincial government Mohammad Samim said, and added that if the demands are not heard within 30 days a phase-wise movement from the district to the center will be waged.
