Minister Khadka inspects NEA office at Kuleshwor, instructs to smooth supply of electricity

Kathmandu, May 26: Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has stated that Nepal is currently supplying electricity as per the nation’s requirements.

Speaking to the media on Sunday evening after inspecting the power supply issues, consumer complaints, and possible technical glitches in various areas under the “No Light Branch” in Kuleshwar, Minister Khadka clarified that the recent power outages were not due to a shortage of electricity, but rather due to natural disasters and technical disruptions. He assured that the government is working to ensure consumers receive safe and reliable electricity. He also mentioned that false rumors are being spread to create confusion about power supply shortages.

Minister Khadka emphasized that Nepal is currently not importing electricity and is producing more than enough for domestic consumption. He claimed that the current supply is better than in previous years and urged the public not to believe in baseless rumors.

He said, “The power outages are not due to a lack of electricity. What we want is for consumers to receive safe and reliable electricity. It’s not as the rumors in the market suggest. Power can be disrupted due to windstorms and lightning, which are beyond human control. These events occurred last year, the year before, and will likely happen again in the future. We are doing our best to restore supply quickly in such cases. There’s unnecessary propaganda being spread. That is not the reality. We are not importing electricity; in fact, we have surplus production. We are able to supply electricity as per the demand. I request all citizens not to fall for rumors, as electricity supply is better than before.”

Minister Khadka also warned that those who spread panic by falsely claiming power outages when there are none will be brought under the law. He noted that despite proper power supply in No Light Branch areas, some individuals falsely report outages via phone calls, and upon cross-checking, power was found to be available.

He added, “There are still many fake calls being made. Our team answers calls 24/7 and ensures supply to affected areas around the clock. Some even tally the status — where electricity is available or not — and upon cross-checking, it has been found that power had not gone out. If such rumors are being spread intentionally, I request people to stop. Please note such phone numbers and report them to the police. Those who spread rumors or cause panic will be penalized.”

Minister Khadka further noted that market prices are determined based on demand. #energy #NEA #nepal
