Missing Spanish tourist found dead

Pokhara, Aug 27: One of the two Spanish nationals who went missing since Sunday from Tikhedhunga in Annapurna rural municipality-9 of Kaski was found dead today.

According to the Annapurna Rural Municipality spokesperson Bharatman Gurung 37-year-old Eric Casanova was found dead.

However, 32-year-old Molas Junka Mesi is still reported missing. They were reportedly trekking to Ghorepani via Ulleri.

Eric’s body was found stuck on a stone in the middle of Bhurungdi river, about one km below Mauzakhola, where his bag was found. A team of armed police, Nepal Police, people’s representatives, tourism professionals and local residents had searched for them since this morning.

The tourists had registered their details to go to Ghorepani at Birethanti check post of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) on August 25.

According to District Police Office Kaski, the personal details of the two tourists came to be known after two bags were found abandoned on the road in the same evening that they registered themselves at ACAP check post.

It has been suspected that the tourists fell into the river while taking pictures at the waterfall near the Bhurungdi River on the hiking trail, their walking sticks were found near the waterfall.

Yam Bahadur Gurung, in-charge of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project Birethanti Checkpost, said that the search for the missing woman will continue on Wednesday as well. He also shared that the information of the missing tourist has been reported to the respective Embassy. #tourist #spanish #nepal
