Mobile banking customers exceeded 20.7 million in Nepal

Kathmandu, June 11: Recently, it has been observed that there has been a massive increase in internet-based payment system transactions in Nepal.

According to the latest information released by Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of Nepal, the number of mobile banking customers has reached 20.7 million within the month of Mid- May 2023. Last Mid- Apr 2023, this number was 20.4 million. In Mid-May 2022, there were 17.7 million mobile banking customers.

From the business point of view, during one month of 2080 Baisakh (Mid Apr 2023-Mid May 2023), the total transaction amount was about Rs. 210,010 million. Whereas last year in 2079 Baisakh ((Mid Apr 2022-Mid May 2022) the total transaction was Rs. 113,622 million. 

Similarly, payments made through QR technology are also continuously increasing. In 2080 Baisakh nearly Rs. 26,051 million has been paid. Similarly, through wallet only Rs. 19,255 million have been paid.

According to Rastra Bank, by the month of Baisakh, 2080 (Mid-May 2023) , there are 4,716 ATM machines from various financial institutions across the country, the number of issued debit card remains 11,760,594, the number of issued credit cards remain 274,690, prepaid cards 133,060, and the number of internet banking customers is 1,803,065. There are 1,355 branch Less banking centers,  RTGS participants 45, Connect IPS users 1,064,549, ECC members 54 and IPS members 116.
