Mudslides disrupt BP Highway; Traffic halted at multiple points

BP Highway

Banepa, Oct 4: Traffic police have halted vehicles at several locations along Nepal’s BP Highway after continuous rainfall since Friday triggered mudslides at multiple points along the route.

Vehicles have been stopped at Dhulikhel, Bhakunde, and Mangaltar to ensure the safety of passengers and drivers, said Sunil Dhanju, chief of the Kavrepalanchowk Traffic Police Office.

Meanwhile, the Araniko Highway, which was blocked earlier today by a landslide at Tirtire Dhara along the Dhulikhel–Khawa section, has resumed for one-way traffic.

NDRRMA urges suspension of long-distance travel for three Days

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has called for the suspension of long-distance vehicle operations to and from the Kathmandu Valley amid ongoing heavy rainfall. It wants the bodies concerned to suspend the services for three days or from October 4 to 6.

In a public notice issued today, the Authority cited heightened risks of landslides, flooding, and inundations due to continuous rains, and urged all relevant agencies and transport operators to halt services temporarily.

It has also requested the respective District Administration Offices and security agencies to ensure strict monitoring and enforcement of the suspension. #nepal #monsoon #ndrrma
