Kathmandu, March 23: Members of the National Assembly (NA) today have demanded an investigation into the reported forced demolition of a Dalit’s house in Siraha, allegedly to clear the site for a Mahayagya, a religious event.
Expressing outrage over the incident, NA member Ghanashyam Rijal called it “a heinous act of caste-based discrimination.” He urged authorities to hold those responsible accountable, stating, “This is an insult to the approximately six million Dalit population in Nepal and a direct violation of the Constitution and the laws.”
Rijal also called for the government to ensure the security of the affected family.
Supporting his stance, Bishnu Devi Pudasaini and Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma condemned the demolition, saying, “It is a crime to bulldoze a Dalit’s house in the name of Mahayagya.” They urged the government to immediately remove the rural municipality chair from office and arrest the accused, including the so-called ‘Bajarangi Baba,’ the priest assigned to conduct the religious event.
Meanwhile, NA member Manrupa Sharma raised concerns over the murder of 19-year-old Mina Pariyar from Beni Municipality in Myagdi, calling for swift prosecution.
