NCB and Department of Passports sign MoU on crime control



Kathmandu, July 25: The National Central Bureau (NCB) Kathmandu and the Department of Passports have reached to an understanding for collaboration in crime control.

Inspector General of Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar and Department’s Director-General Tirtha Raj Aryal signed on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to that connection amid a ceremony organized at the Police Headquarters today. They also exchanged the MoU.

On the occasion, IGP Kunwar said that Nepal also has been so far using the SLTD (stolen and lost travel documents) database, among the various databases with the INTERPOL. He added that INTERPOL has made available to its member countries the WISDM (Interpol web service for data management) technology to systematize the SLTD, as per the need.

According to him, the MoU has been reached in line with the Department’s suggestion that operation of the pilot phase to determine the feasibility of using WISDM could be integrated with the Department’s system.

IGP Kunwar expressed the belief that with the signing of the MoU would support in curbing the use of the passports lost since long, stolen or canceled in illegal or criminal purposes not only in Nepal but also in foreign land. He said it would also put to an end the possibility of mistakes while updating the database and the long and cumbersome process would be eased and will become prompt after this. He expressed the confidence that it will also facilitate in establishing coordination among Nepal Police INTERPOL Section, the Department of Immigration and the Department of Passports.

Director-General Aryal said that the MoU will help in controlling crime that takes place with the misuse of passports. He asserted that the collaboration with the Nepal Police would be made more systematic in the coming days as well.

Present at the MoU signing ceremony were the Additional Inspectors General of Police, the Superintendents of Police, senior police officers and the officials from the Department of Passports. #NCB #nepal #crime #rss
