Kathmandu, June 6: The Nepal Forum of Environment Journalists (NEFEJ) has decided to award this year’s Environment Journalism Award-2023 to journalist Basant Pratap Singh. The NEFEJ has been honoring journalists for the past three decades for their contribution to advocacy on climate change issues and environmental justice.
This year the world is marking the World Environment Day with slogan “Our Land, Our Future” on June 5. Singh, a journalist working in Kantipur Daily from Bajhang district, will be given cash prize and certificate for continuously writing investigative news on environmental issues.
NEFEJ has been awarding Environment Journalism Awards every year on June 5 (World Environment Day) to encourage journalists. According to NEFEJ, a three-member jury had invited the journalists to file their stories published in newspapers, radio, television and online. The decision was made on the basis of thematic diversity, facts and figures, language, public interest and originality.
The jury consisted of former President of NEFEJ Mr Arjun Dhakal, former General Secretary of NEFEJ Sangeeta Lama and Expert Member of NEFEJ Sarita Gyawali.
Mr Basant was the 37th journalist to receive the ‘Environmental Journalism Award-2023’ established by NEFEJ. This award will be handed over on the day of the next general meeting of NEFEJ.
