Kathmandu, Dec 11: Nepal exports handicraft worth Rs 12 billion annually, the Handicraft Association of Nepal informed.
In a press conference held in Kathmandu on Monday to inform about the 20th Handicraft Trade Fair and the 18th Handicraft Competition, the Nepal Handicraft Association informed that Nepali handicrafts have been exporting more than 60 countries.
On that occasion, Prachanda Shakya, President of the Handicraft Federation, emphasized that the government should pay special attention to the protection and promotion of handicrafts as the Nepali handicrafts sector have been playing an important contribution to the national economy.
The Federation is organizing Handicraft Competition and Handicraft Trade Fair from Mangsir 28 to Poush 2, 2080 BS.
There will be 130 rooms with three pavilions in the trade fair and competition to be organized at Hotel Annapurna on Durbarmarg. Organizers say that more than one lakh people are expected to visit the fair.
In the 18th Handicraft Competition, Pauva for the traditional genre and Chhwali art competition for the contemporary genre will be held.
In the competition, the first prize is Rs 50,000, the second prize is Rs 30,000 and the third prize is Rs 20,000. On this occasion, 10 senior artists who have crossed 70 years of age will be honored.
