
Kathmandu, March 30: Durga Prasai, the commander of the pro-monarchy group who is on the police’s wanted list, has said that he broke through the police barricade on Friday to save his life after learning about an alleged plan to kill him.
During a protest in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on Friday, Prasai drove his vehicle through the police barricade.
In the process, he also used offensive language multiple times. The police are still searching for him. Regarding the incident, he stated, “I am just staying safe, I haven’t fled. I have not run away. I am staying in a safe place, in a temple in Kathmandu.”
Since going into hiding, Prasai recently posted a video message on social media apologizing to the police. “I broke through the security barricade for my own safety. It was not an act of hostility toward the police. I apologize for any harm caused to you,” Prasai said.
“A bullet passed right by my ear. After I realized what was happening, tear gas was fired at my vehicle, which led to the situation,” Prasai said in the video.
During the protest program, two people died and several others injured. The mass also vandalized public and private properties, including houses, vehicles and looting of shops. The police has already arrested nearly 112 people, including leaders from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Mr Dhawal Shumsher Rana, Rabindra Mishra.
