Deuba proposes former King Gyanendra for RPP leadership

Sher Bahadur Deuba

Lalitpur, March 23: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that there is no possibility of the return of monarchy in Nepal.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Training Department of the Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Committee, President Deuba, hinting to the activities of the pro-monarchists since some days back, said former King Gyanendra Shah could not be a constitutional king again.

“There is no possibility of the return of monarchy in Nepal. Gyanendra is not even a person worthy of becoming a constitutional monarch. Rather the Rastriya Prajatantra Party will make Gyanendra the party Chairman,” he said, addressing the inauguration of a training programme for the office-bearers and members of the NC Province Working Committee.

President Deuba also suggested that former King Gyanendra establish his own political party if he intends to engage in politics. “If he wants to enter politics, he can form a party. But those who join that party will face many difficulties.”

He also urged Nepali Congress party leaders and cadres to unite in support of the republic and remain committed to its principles.

Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Vice President and Provincial Training Department Chief Chandra Maharjan chaired the program.

The event was attended by party spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Province President Indra Bahadur Baniya, Director of the Central Policy, Research, and Training Academy Dr Krishna Prasad Paudel, Bagmati Province Treasurer Dr Bhadra Parajuli Bhandari, and Executive Director of the Central Policy Research and Training Department Dr Buddhi Man Shrestha, among others. #Deuba #nepal #monarchy #gyanendra
