Nepal to export buffalo meat to China, Agreement signed with Chinese Company



Kathmandu, Dec 16: An agreement has been reached between the private sectors of Nepal and China to export buffalo meat from Nepal to China. In a program, Himalayan Food International of Nepal and Shanghai Ziyan Food Company Limited of China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the export.

Under the agreement, a fully automated, modern slaughterhouse, with an investment of six billion rupees, will be constructed within the next six months in collaboration with Himalayan Food International.

Established in 2068 BS, Himalayan Food International has been exporting processed meat to various countries. During Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to China, a protocol was signed between Nepal and China for the export of processed buffalo meat to China.

With over 6,000 outlets selling food products and packaged meat dishes, Ziyan Food is interested in providing technical support for buffalo farming and investing approximately 20 billion rupees in Nepal, informed Dr. Navin Kumar Sharma, Chairman of the Slaughterhouse Business Association. This initiative is expected to benefit youth engaged or interested in livestock farming.

On the occasion, Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari stated that the Nepalese government is committed to ensuring quality buffalo meat for local consumers while also adhering to Chinese government standards for exports. He noted that the agreement would further encourage farmers to engage in buffalo farming.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song expressed satisfaction that the buffalo meat export agreement, signed during PM Oli’s China visit, is now being implemented. In a tweet, he mentioned that the agreement could bring significant benefits to farmers, with buffalo farming potentially generating economic activity worth around 100 billion rupees.

Dr. Umesh Dahal, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, informed that a buffalo farming campaign has been launched in 30 municipalities to ensure there is no shortage of meat supply. #nepal #china #buffalo
