Kathmandu, April 14: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung held a courtesy meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday.
During the meeting, Ambassador Maoming congratulated Minister Gurung on assuming office as Home Minister and extended best wishes for a successful tenure, according to the ministry.
Minister Gurung reiterated Nepal’s commitment to the “One China Policy,” stating that no anti-China activities would be allowed on Nepali soil. He emphasized that the government is capable of safeguarding Nepal’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and that Nepali territory would not be used against any country.
The meeting also discussed the issue of Chinese nationals residing illegally in Nepal due to visa overstays. Minister Gurung requested coordination and facilitation from the Chinese side to expedite their deportation, according to a statement from Home Ministry.
Similarly, Home Minister Gurung drew attention to the timely completion of development projects being implemented with Chinese support. Discussions were also held on the construction of the Nepal–China railway and facilitating bilateral trade.
Regarding the border security, Minister Gurung proposed strengthening cooperation to control criminal activities in the Nepal–China border areas. In response, Ambassador Maoming expressed China’s positive stance and commitment to supporting the capacity building of Nepal’s security agencies.
Meanwhile, Minister Gurung expressed concern over reports of disruptions at the Tatopani border point after he visited there sometime before. Ambassador Maoming clarified that there had been no obstruction from the Chinese side.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen the long-standing Nepal–China relationship and expand cooperation in the days ahead.
In a post in X (formerly twitter), Chinese envoy Maoming also shared, “we reaffirmed our shared commitment to strengthening law enforcement and security cooperation, so as to bring more tangible benefits to the people of our two countries.”
