KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. And, it has also decided to take the lead in forming a government under its own leadership.
The Central Working Committee has put an end to the confusion over the formation of the government. According to Nepali Congress spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, recalling that KP Oli government had lost its moral and political basis after the Apex court order.
He said, “It continued its anti-constitutional and anti-people activities and took unconstitutional steps to dissolve the House of Representatives without having the capacity to resolve conflicts within the party.”
The meeting of the Central Working Committee has also decided to take the initiative to form a government under its own leadership. Spokesperson Sharma said, “There was a regression and the parties concluding that the present government should be replaced should stand together and go for alternatives in terms of forming a Congress-led government.”
The UCPN (Maoist Centre) has been proposing to form a Congress-led government, while senior Congress leaders Ram Chandra Poudel and Krishna Sitaula have agreed to form a government led by President Sher Bahadur Deuba. However, Deuba pointed out the differences in the 32-seat Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and said that the environment was not conducive for taking the lead.
One of the leaders said that the decision was taken due to increasing pressure from within the party and hope that Deuba would lead the government.
