KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has decided to postpone the party’s 14th general convention for nine days. The general secretary has proposed to start the ward convention one month late from July 21.
In a meeting of Nepali Congress office bearers and former office bearers held on Saturday, President Sher Bahadur Deuba had said that he would convene General Convention at any cost within the timeframe. However, the General Secretary has proposed to amend the schedule saying that it is not possible to start the ward level convention from the pre-scheduled date of June 21.
According to Joint General Secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, it has been proposed to extend the term of active membership investigation till July 4. It is proposed to investigate the distribution and renewal of the remaining active membership during this period.
The proposal states that it will be approved by the Central Working Committee within 7 June and a ward level convention will be held from 21 July. According to Dr Mahat, the General Secretary has proposed to hold the Central General Convention from September 1 to 4.
Earlier, the date of the general convention was fixed from August 23 to 26, 2021.
