Lalitpur, Dec 15: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Kumar Thapa, has said that the Nepali Congress is not only a political party but also a vital and responsible national force.
“A national force naturally carries national responsibility,” Thapa said while addressing a programme organized by the Lalitpur District Party Office today. He expressed concern that the country has been compelled to compromise on many fronts due to weaknesses within the national political forces.
According to Thapa, the Nepali Congress does not seek power merely for electoral purposes, but requires it to provide direction and solutions to the country’s challenges. He stressed that the party now needs courage and public support to fulfill this role.
Recalling the party’s historical role, Thapa said the Nepali Congress had led the country out of periods of violence and had repeatedly demonstrated its capacity to safeguard national interests, even during times of political setback. He added that the party has consistently worked to accommodate all sections of society.
Thapa argued that ensuring good governance and advancing development activities are core responsibilities of the Nepali Congress, adding that the time has once again come to correct past weaknesses and strengthen the party’s performance.
Similarly, NC Lalitpur President Jitendra Kumar Shrestha said the party secured victories in 56 percent of local levels across the district in the last local elections, expressing confidence that the NC would achieve even greater success in the upcoming polls.
On the occasion, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 1 Chairperson Nirmal Tandukar, Ward No. 13 Chairperson Ganesh KC, and individuals including Sushil Sapkota and Jitendra Gajurel joined the Nepali Congress. #nepal #gagan
