
Kathmandu, March 25: The Nepali movie Anjila, based on the life of Nepal women’s national football team captain Anjila Tumbapo Subba, is set to release simultaneously in 16 different countries. The film will premiere in the USA, Croatia, Qatar, Bahrain, Malta, Denmark, Portugal, Hong Kong, South Korea, Finland, Canada, Qatar, Singapore, Japan, Belgium, and Sweden.
Additionally, discussions for its release in Australia are in the final stages, and due to high demand in the UK, it will be released gradually across different cities.
Having been released in Nepal on Fagu Purnima (March 11, 2024), Anjila became a superhit, garnering critical acclaim and commercial success. Following this, there was increasing demand from various countries with a strong Nepali diaspora. The international release is scheduled for March 29, 2024.
In the USA, Anjila will be distributed by Seven Seas International (Patrick Subedi), while in Canada, Agan Events and I&R Entertainment will handle its release. Other distributors include UNA Entertainment in Japan, Mama Event in Finland, Sathi Bhai Entertainment in the Middle East, and Magwart Production in Malta.
Director Milan Chams shared that the increasing number of shows and audience turnout has been encouraging. He recalled a special moment when an 83-year-old woman watched the film and left the theater with joy, expressing how fulfilling such moments are as a filmmaker.
Critics and audiences have praised Anjila for its storytelling, presentation, performances, and direction. The movie vividly portrays Anjila Tumbapo Subba’s inspirational journey from a challenging family background to becoming a professional footballer. It captures her struggles before and after arriving in Kathmandu.
Directed by Milan Chams and produced by Prem Kumar Shrestha, Anjila features real-life footballer Anjila Tumbapo Subba in the lead role. Other key cast members include Mao Tse Gurung and Dayahang Rai as her father, Sirjana Subba as her mother, Sumin Gurung as her brother, and Sunil Thapa as her coach.
