Nepali team announced for Asia Rugby tournament



Kathmandu, July 29: The Nepali national rugby team for women and men has been announced for the Asia Rugby Women’s and Men’s Sevens Trophy.

Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy 2024 will be held in Nepal from October 3 to 5 under the management of Asia Rugby and Nepal Rugby. A 16-member Nepali team has been announced for both men and women.

The head coach of the Nepali team, Murray Paul Stuart of New Zealand announced the national team for both sides. He is an international level three trainer and educator. For the national team selection, initial players were selected from all seven provinces and three departmental teams in the first stage.

38 men and 28 women were selected in the initial team. Out of them, 20 female and male players were selected in the second round. Govinda Ghimire, General Secretary of Nepal Rugby Union informed that the final selection was made from there.

Men’s team

The Nepali National Men’s team consists of Bibesh Basu, Pramesh Chaudhary, Yadu Adhikari, Birat Shrestha, Niroj Adhikari, Bikram Puri, Ganesh Baniya, Sabin Mahat, Nabin Bahadur Magar, Mashesh Sunar, Bijay Khadka, Rohan Dangol, Binod Bahadur Shahi, Calvin Joshi, Sanjay Adhikari and Kapil Thakuri.

Women’s team

Women’s team consists of Manisha Thapa Magar, Asha Kunsar, Sabitri Purja, Shrujana Rai, Srijana Chhantyal, Manisha Ghising, Bishaka Markin Rai, Sushmita Chhetri, Poonam Shrestha, Sangeeta Ghising, Apsara Karki, Rozina Pokharel, Binita Shahi Thakuri, Anu Sherpa, Kamala Rai and Suja Rai.

Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy 2024 is the biggest competition that Nepal is going to host. The matches of the trophy will be conducted at Dasharath Stadium. Ghimire, the general secretary of the rugby union, said that the project has been prepared for about four months.
