Kathmandu, Aug 22: The men’s national cricket team is leaving for Pakistan tonight to participate in the Asia Cup Cricket tournament to be hosted jointly by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The tournament is being held from August 30 to September 17.
It will be the maiden participation of Nepal in the Asia Cup and is in Group ‘A’ including India and Pakistan. Similarly, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in Group B. Nepal will play its first group match in Pakistan and the second match in Sri Lanka with Pakistan and India respectively.
The first match between Nepal and Pakistan will be held on August 31. Similarly, Nepal will play its second match against India on September 4.
President extends best wishes to Nepali cricketers playing in Asia Cup
President Ramchandra Paudel has extended best wishes to a national cricket team leaving for Pakistan to play the Asia Cup, the T20 international cricket tournament.
During his meeting with the team at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas, today, the President wished for a success of the team in the men’s One Day International running from August 30 to September 17.
On the occasion, he hoped that Nepal’s performance in such types of tournament will prove to be an opportunity to build a personality for player, promoting the national image and identity internationally.
Stating that the growing interest in cricket and recent accomplishments in the game had been the reason of excitement among the Nepali, President Paudel was of the opinion that the government should focus on improving cricket infrastructures and creating more opportunities in the sports including in cricket to make the sector more productive.
“It is a matter of excitement for the Nepali team having an opportunity to play with globally recognized teams such as India and Pakistan. May your hard work and dedication end in the exceptional performances and the desired outcome,” the Head of State said.
