Nepali youth Pratap Basnet joins Ukrainian Army

KATHMANDU: A Nepali national, Mr Pratap Basnet, residing in Ukraine for some years, has joined the Ukrainian army after Russia invaded the Ukraine.

Ukrainian government has called general people for joining the army and serve for the nation. In media reports, many people have been joining Ukrainian defence forces and raising arms voluntarily.

Among them, one is from Nepal and his name is Pratap Basnet. He has shared a video post in social media in which he has declared joining Ukrainian forces. He has said that he felt proud to engage and fight for a sovereign state.

Mr Basnet has said, “I am feeling so proud of myself because I make decision to stand for Ukraine. I am feeling so proud, I am in front of military base to join the army. I am feeling proud because I took a good decision. This land belongs to Ukraine and Russia has no right to interfere with their decision. I cannot sleep all night because of this situation. Because it is about humanity and human rights. I don’t feel myself safe. I want to do something good for Ukraine because I earned, I used to work in Ukraine. I used to get food and shelter from Ukraine. That’s why it’s my responsibility. When Ukraine need help, I am here to join the military force. And I will be proud until my last breathe, I will fight for the Ukraine.”

Many Nepali speaking people, home and abroad, have lauded his decision, and prayed for his safety there.

Russia has launched a full scale invasion, and military operation inside Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has come under widespread international condemnation after invading a sovereign country Ukraine.

Conflicting reports have showed that a huge loss of life and property occurred within a week. Nobody knows how long the war will last. Ukrainian forces and people have been resisting the Russian attack, however long range indiscriminate missile attack by Russian forces have damaged key Ukrainian installations, including general people.
