Kathmandu, Dec 7: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nepal, has submitted its annual report of the fiscal year, 2079/80 to President Ramchandra Paudel on Thursday.
NHRC Chair Tap Bahadur Magar submitted the report to the President amidst a ceremony at Shital Niwas.
Receiving the report, President Paudel said every citizen should be entitled to unobstructed exercise of human rights. All sides should pay heed to ensure implementation of democratic values and fundamental rights as voting rights and freedom of press, he said, pointing out the need of incorporating human rights in school curriculum and launching massive public awareness on it.
On the occasion, NHRC Chair Magar informed that the rights-watch body was working actively with the collaboration of national and international organizations for protection and promotion of human rights.
The report has included details on complaints lodged at NHRC, investigation on complaints, recommendation to the government and activities the NHRC carried throughout the year. It has also mentioned the challenges before the protection and promotion of human rights and the way ahead.
In the mentioned fiscal year, a total of 100 complaints were lodged at NHRC. The human rights watch body conducted 220 monitoring of incidents of human rights violation across the country in this period.
