Parbat, Aug 18: Ponds have been constructed in nine community forests in the district to facilitate wildlife and control forest fires.
The Division Forest Office has constructed nine ponds in the last fiscal year under the pond construction programme in various community forests. Jhyam Narayan Sapkota, Head of Division Forest Office, said that the water has been collected by constructing ponds at places with perennial water source.
According to him, the target was to build 10 ponds at a cost of one million rupees but only nine ponds could be constructed. Sapkota said that the construction of nine ponds cost Rs 839 thousand.
Ponds have been constructed in Deupuja Community Forest of Falebas Municipality-3, Lohose Chisakhark Community Forest of Modi Rural Municipality-4, Barahatal Than Community Forest and Gidaure Salghari Community Forest of Kushma Municipality-14, Tandi Bisauna Community Forest of Jaljala Rural Municipality-4.
Similarly, two ponds have been constructed in Lastiberneta Community Forest of Jaljala-8, Kaloban Batulechaur Community Forest of Falebas Municipality-7 and Salleri Community Forest of Kushma Municipality-3, Sapkota said.
Jeevan Uchai Thakuri, chairman of the Community Forest Users Federation, said that the ponds will be useful for extinguishing fires and controlling in rising temperature. “The water spring are ‘recharged’ by the collected water of the pond, which helps in the conservation of the water spring in surrounding over there as well,” he said. #wildlife #forest #fires
