Sindhupalchowk, Oct 18: Nirmala Rai from Khotang district has emerged victorious in the Panchpokhari Women Trail Race. Rai finished running 28 kms distance in 2 hours 28 minutes in the race organized at Panchpokhari Thangpal rural municipality in the Sindhupalchowk district.
Similarly, Lakpa Nigma Sherpa of Okhaldhunga district stood second and Nitu Tamang of Sindhupalchowk finished third in the long-distance race in 2 hours 49 minutes and 2 hours 58 minutes, respectively.
Likewise, Asmita Bhujel of Sindhupalchowk district secured fourth position in the race followed by Ashma BK of Rolpa district. Bhujel covered the distance in 3 hours 11 minutes while BK finished the race in 3 hours 18 minutes, the organizers said.
The first prize carries a purse of Rs 50,000 while the second prize is Rs 25,000. The cash prize for third position is Rs 15,000 and Rs 5000 for fourth position. The consolation prize amounts to Rs 1,500, according to the organizers.
On the occasion, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Indira Rana, awarded the winners.
Organizing team’s Maya Gurung shared that the race was organized with an objective of empowering women by enhancing their skills and capacity.
