Kathmandu: No new variant of coronavirus has been detected in Nepal. Dr. Sameer Kumar Adhikari, co-spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, informed that the new variant of BF7 found in neighboring countries has not been found in Nepal.

According to Adhikari, during the ‘gene sequencing’ of the samples collected from different parts of the country in a month, the variant of the species called BF7 was not found. He said that when 48 samples were tested at National Public Health Laboratory Teku, Omicron variant was found in all of them.

Dr. Adhikari also informed that while new variants of the infection are being confirmed and spreading in some countries, the ministry has incresed the surveillance and coordinating with the respective countries. The ministry said that although the number of cases of COVID-19 in Nepal is low, there is a risk in some countries as new forms of infection are increasing.

Considering the recent situation, the health ministry has requested everyone to use masks, maintain physical distance from each other and pay special attention to personal hygiene, as the risk of infection of COVID-19 is seen in different forms. The Ministry has requested screening, monitoring, vigilance and necessary preparations in the health aid rooms at all border points.
