No relevance of king in a federal democratic republic, Communications Minister says



Kathmandu, March 20: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has mentioned that it was an irrelevant to expect a king in a federal democratic republic system of governance.

At a programme organized by Nepal Chepang Association in the federal capital on Thursday, Minister Gurung stated that the call for a monarchy in the existing political system was meaningless.

Minister Gurung, also the spokesperson of the government, said federal republican system of governance was the best system of governance for social development and national unity and called on everyone to take maximum benefit of federalism. Federalism is a great achievement for the indigenous nationalities and marginalized communities, he observed.

Gurung asked the marginalized communities to remain cautious to take advantages of the present governance system adding that it was established after a massive political struggle.

The federal democratic republic system is a great achievement for the indigenous nationalities. We have still lagged behind from taking advantages of the rights ensured by this system,” Minister Gurung added. The main basis of national unity is inclusive and equitable society and the state should be responsive to implement the inclusion, he said.

Member of the National Planning Commission Gita Poudel, Vice Chairman of National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities Ramesh Gurung, Chairperson of the Association Govindaram Chepang and others shared their views on the rights of the indigenous nationalities and other concerning issues.#nepal #political #rss
