Kathmandu, June 25: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and leader of the main opposition party Mr Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed serious concern over alleged “interference and manipulation” in bills that have already unanimously approved by parliamentary committees.
Speaking during today’s meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Prachanda made the remarks while participating in discussions on the bill related to the amendment and integration of laws concerning the Nepal Police.
Chair Prachanda voiced dissatisfaction over the removal of some unanimously passed bills from the House agenda at the last moment, despite their inclusion in the schedule, and urged against such practices. He said, “We have worked hard to bring these bills to the parliament and have them unanimously endorsed by the committee. Removing them from the agenda reflects manipulation, and we urge that such practices be stopped.”
He emphasized the urgency of implementing important bills such as those concerning the Federal Civil Service and School Education, calling for the attention of the government and committee chairs on these matters. “If efforts are made to sideline sensitive bills, we will not remain silent,” he warned.
Prachanda further stressed that the bill concerning the police should be passed in a timely, context-relevant manner, with extensive deliberation and maximum revisions. According to him, the drafting process should take into account previous debates, stakeholder opinions, and the essence of federalism.
“Though the bill has come late, I thank the government. But now it must move forward with proper amendments and due process,” he said. He also underlined the need for all parties to cooperate in establishing a legal foundation to remove the confusion seen in the implementation of federalism.
Echoing Chair Dahal’s concerns, other lawmakers present at the meeting also stated that unnecessary interference in bills unanimously passed by the committee would not be acceptable. #nepal #prachanda
