NP Saud takes oath of office and secrecy as Foreign Minister



Kathmandu, April 16: Newly appointed Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash (NP) Saud has taken oath of office and secrecy from President Ram Chandra Paudel today.

President Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Minister Saud in a special ceremony held on Sunday at the Presidential Office Sheetal Niwas. Nepali Congress leader and member of the House of Representatives Saud has been appointed as Foreign Minister by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachand’.

Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Dahal, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina were present at the oath taking ceremony. Today, Minister Saud has reached the ministry and assumed office.

Upon assuming the office, he said that he will speed up the process of the visit of Prime Minister Dahal to India. After being Prime Minister, Dahal has not visited neighboring countries neither India or China.

Saud, a Congress central member, was previously the Minister of Irrigation in 2070 BS and the Minister of State for Education and Sports in 2057 BS. Congress leader Saud was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Constituency No. 2 of Kancharpur  district in 2056 BS and 2070 BS. Lastly, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Kanchanpur  2 in the election.

In 2036 BS, he entered politics by joining the Nepal Students’ Union, and in 2043 BS, he became the vice-chairman of the NSU and became the central president in 2048 BS. He was born in Dadeldhura on August 9, 1962 to father Khadga Singh Saud and mother Kaushilyadevi Saud. His permanent address is Shuklaphanta Municipality-6 of Kanchanpur.

He has visited India, USA, Australia, United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, France, Germany, Philippines, South Korea, Egypt, Japan, Singapore, Qatar, Thailand and other countries.

According to sources, he became minister on the recommendation of NC Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
