NTA Chairman Khanal resigns amidst disputes in telecom sector

Kathmandu, Jan 9: Purushottam Khanal, Chairman of Nepal Telecommunication Authority, the regulatory body of Nepal telecom sector, has resigned on Tuesday amid various disputes in the authority.

Sources in the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology said that he submitted his resignation letter to Minister Rekha Sharma with effect from Wednesday.

He is being investigated by the Ministry, the CIAA and the Parliamentary Committee on allegations of irregularity in various purchases and installation of equipment by the Authority. Recently, it is understood that Khanal has resigned due to the increasing number of controversies related to purchasing of Teramox and MDMS system, Radio Nepal’s land purchase process etc.

The then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli government gave Khanal the responsibility of the authority from 2076 BS. #Nepal
