Nyatpol renovation begins in Bhaktapur



Bhaktapur, Dec 12, 2019 : Renovation of popular Nyatpol or five-storied temple based in Bhaktapur-5, Taumadhi has begun.

Bhaktapur municipality officially started renovation of the earthquake-devastated temple on Wednesday following four years of the temblor.

According to the municipality sources, renovation of the temple, which was enlisted as world heritage site, began after forming an users’ committee.

Mayor Sunil Prajapati informed the fifth municipal assembly of Bhaktapur took the decision to renovate the historical temple in an estimated costing of Rs 6.51 million.

The 2015 earthquake had caused huge damages to the upper floor of the temple. The 1933 earthquake also had damaged the upper part of the temple.

Earlier, the late King Mahendra and the municipality itself had got the temple renovated twice.

Keshab Tamakhu, Chairperson of Temple Preservation and Renovation Users’ Committee, said they have set a target to complete the renovation by coming mid-July.
