Officials raid on multinational company Unilever



HETAUDA: The local administration has sealed the tea processing center of multinational company Unilever in Hetauda and started further action from today.

Somkant Rijal, Chief of the Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Hetauda, ​​said that the District Administration Office, Makwanpur and Food Technology and Quality Control Office had jointly sealed Unilever’s tea processing plant.

He said, “We have collected samples and sealed the tea processing center of the company after finding expired products and expired tea leaves.” According to Rijal, date expired 920 packets of tea (each with 30 kg) were found in the company.

He said that the tea samples were collected and sent to the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control for further testing.

He informed that the company was planning to extending the expiration date. The monitoring team also claimed that the imported tea leaves from India were of already date expired, but company was sending to market with brand name “Red Label”.

Based on the special information received, a joint inspection team comprising local administration, food technology and quality control office and consumer organizations inspected the tea plant in the industrial complex. Earlier, the team had also taken action against a businessman who was illegally producing Agarbatti in the name of an Indian brand. (RSS)
