Over 400 irrigation infrastructures constructed in Lumbini Province



Lumbini, April 7: The Lumbini Province Government has said it has made notable progress in the development of irrigation infrastructures.

The Province Government’s Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation said that 403 irrigation dams and water sources have been constructed in the province so far.

Significant progress has also been made in the construction of concrete canals and feeder canals, the Ministry stated.
So far, 832 kilometers of concrete canals have been completed while a total of 107 projects are in operation under the lift irrigation system. Two new schemes have been added in the current fiscal year. Emphasis has also been laid on installation of shallow and deep tube wells to expand access to irrigation.

Similarly, 759 shallow tubewells and 232 deep tubewells have been installed so far. The number of pump houses has reached 386 while 82 projects have been electrified for irrigation purposes. According to the Ministry, 747 kilometers pipeline has been laid as part of the pipeline expansion work.

Irrigation facilities have been expanded in an additional 21,055 hectares of land and irrigation infrastructure has been boosted in 73,768 hectares of land across the province.

A total of 211 kilometres of embankments have been constructed to prevent erosion by river and 2,632 hectares of land has been reclaimed, 14,119 hectares of land has been protected and 17,498 households secured from risk of erosion.

According to the Lumbini province government, irrigation facilities have been extended to 55 percent of the land. Only 33 percent of the total irrigated land has irrigation services for 12 months.#nepal # Lumbini Province #rss
