Painting exhibition on sexual minorities from Dalit communities



Kathmandu, Nov 26: A painting exhibition titled ‘Caste system and Sexuality: Resistance through Art’ is being organized in Kathmandu with an objective to increase public awareness on the issues of LGBTIQ from the Dalit communities.

The Samari Uthan Sewa, and National Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) are joining hands to organize the week-long event from November 30 at the exhibition hall of the NAFA.

In a press conference here Sunday, it was shared that painting from 38 artists, including those from LGBTIQ of Dalit communities will be put on display.

The exhibition will highlight the artistic ability of the sexual minorities and help enhance advocacy of their rights, said Executive Director of the Sewa, Bimala Gayak,

Furthermore, the event is also expected to create an environment for holding public debate on the exclusion and disparities facing the Dalit sexual minorities in the country based on their sexuality and caste, she added.

The paintings of the exhibition would give a symbolic message about discrimination against the Dalit sexual minorities.
