KATHMANDU: Former captain of the national cricket team Paras Khadka, who recently retired from international cricket, has expressed his interest in cricket management in the country.
He is preparing to open a cricket academy and plans to manage cricket through the upcoming elections to the Cricket Association of Nepal.
“I have not distanced myself from cricket. My role has just changed. I was thinking about it two years ago and I thought now is the right time,” he shared.
He however said that he would help the national team in every possible way.
“Cricket has given me everything. Despite it, I took this decision as I thought it is the right time.”
The Nepali cricket has challenging days ahead to retain one-day cricket status, he said.
All-rounder Khadka made his debut in 2004 as a national team player.
He made his appearances in many national and international cricket matches including 10 one-day international matches and 33 T20 international games.
He took the position of captain of the national cricket team in 2009 and quit it in 2019.
Nepal got One Day International status in cricket under his leadership.
Similarly, he led the cricket team to play the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2014.
A right-handed batsman, Khadka in his career has scored 315 runs in one-day series and 799 runs in T20.
Also a bowler, Khadka has taken nine wickets in 10 one-day matches and eight wickets in 33 T20. (RSS)
