Parliamentary committee directs govt. to submit Nepal’s human rights status report

Kathmandu, July 21: The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) has directed the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to prepare the Universal Periodic Report (UPR) along with Nepal’s human rights status to be submitted at the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The parliamentary Committee has directed the PMO to submit the report in the Committee and concerned agencies.

Committee’s meeting presided over by chairperson Bimala Subedi stated that such a directive was given to submit the report in a certain timeline since it should be submitted to the concerned agencies to the 4th cycle of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) which is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, in January 2026.

The directive was issued to the government considering that the discussions held in the Committee and the recommendations offered by the Committee members would be supportive for the government for facilitation.

The Committee has also asked the government to prepare the report by incorporating the commitments and recommendations for the implementation made from the first to the third cycles of the UPR.

The Committee also held discussions with the PMO regarding the implementation of the third cycle of the UPR on human rights and the preparations of the 4th cycle of the UPR. #nepal #UPR rss
