Parliamentary committee directs NIC to present annual reports for discussion

Kathmandu, Dec 24, 2019 : The Development and Technology Committee under the House of Representatives, has directed the National Information Commission (NIC) to present its annual reports in the Committee for discussions.

The direction was made following complaints made by the Committee’s Chief Commissioner and commissioners in a Committee’s meeting held on Monday to discuss progresses of the Commission that the Commission’s 11 annual reports have not been discussed in Parliament so far although presented to Prime Minister, said the Committee’s President Kalyani Kumari Khadka.

The reports have not been discussed in Parliament for the past 11 years despite having tabled at Parliament through Prime Minister. The reports would be discussed in a Parliament meeting following their deliberations in the Committee, said Khadka.

Likewise, the Committee directed the government to start the process to amend 96 laws that are contradictory to the Right to Information Act, 2064 BS.  

Lawmakers Jipchhiring Lama, Bahadur Singh Lama, Mahendra Ray Yadav, Leelanath Shrestha, Ganesh Pahadi, Asha Kumari BK, Bina Kumari Shrestha had spoken on various issues concerned with the Information Commission report in the meeting. 

Chief Commissioner Krishna Hari Banskota while responding the query of lawmakers shared that they had submitted national plan regarding to implement RTI.  He added that they were preparing school level curriculum on RTI.
