Parliamentary hearing committee confirm Dr Khatiwada for US Ambassador

Kathmandu: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the Federal Parliament has unanimously approved the name of the proposed Nepali Ambassador to the United States, United Kingdom and South Africa.

Chairman Laxman Lal Karna informed that today’s meeting of the committee approved the name of the proposed ambassadors after getting information about their qualifications, capacity, experience and action plan.

The government had nominated former finance minister Dr Yuvraj Khatiwada to the US, former Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi to the UK and Dr Nirmal Kumar Bishwakarma to the South African ambassador.

In the meeting, the proposed three ambassadors expressed their commitment to work in the country by giving high priority to the issue of bringing investment in the country by promoting economic diplomacy.

On the occassion Dr Khatiwada affirmed that he would work in the interest of Nepal and expressed his determination to make high-level visits from both the countries.

Although three complaints were lodged against the proposed ambassador Dr Khatiwada and one against Regmi, the complainant did not appear before the committee. Earlier in the meeting, the members demanded clarification on the complaints lodged against them and suggested them to work with priority by understanding the needs of the country.

According to Nepal’s Constitution, there is the provision of parliamentary hearing before appointing by the President.
