Butwal, Dec 17: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that peace and security are the primary conditions for democracy.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Lumbini Province-level Security Conference held in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi, on Tuesday, he said, “Peace and security are the first conditions of democracy. If we can ensure peace and security, citizens will be able to exercise their fundamental rights freely. The federal democratic system guarantees peace, security, good governance, and development.”
He highlighted the unique significance of Lumbini Province, stating, “This is not only a place of religious and cultural importance but also a source of light for world peace.”
Minister Lekhak stressed that conferences should not remain mere formalities but must be productive and effective.
He further mentioned that there is no room for the failure of the constitution and emphasized that protecting the constitution, ensuring the rights provided by it, and its implementation are collective responsibilities.
“Our constitution has guaranteed 32 fundamental rights for citizens. It is our duty to ensure these rights, and for that, peace and security are crucial,” said Minister Lekhak.
Expressing concerns about revenue leakage in Lumbini Province, Home Minister Lekhak instructed authorities to immediately curb smuggling at border points.
“Cross-border crimes must be controlled. Efforts should yield visible results,” he said, adding, “The control of drug abuse, reduction of suicide rates, and prevention of road accidents are essential.”
Addressing the rise in cybercrime and financial disruptions, he stressed that citizens must feel a sense of safety.
In a different context, Minister Lekhak referred to the new political alliance between the Congress and UML, stating that this coalition was formed to ensure good governance, development, and prosperity.
“There are rumors that the government will collapse as soon as it is formed or that ministers will be removed soon after their appointment. This alliance will last until 2084 BS,” he affirmed. #nepal #home
