Kathmandu, April 12: Chairman of CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stressed the need for all concerned to fulfill their responsibilities sensitively to conclude the peace process which has reached its final stage.

Releasing a book on ‘Transitional Justice’ authored by Constituent Assembly member and senior advocate Khimlal Devkota here today, he pointed out the danger of conflict in the society if the peace process could not be taken to its logical conclusion.

He said that although attempts were made to propagate that the main leader of the people’s war was in favor of amnesty for serious crimes that took place during the Maoist conflict, it was not true. “There should be no amnesty, serious violation of human rights should be investigated and the peace process can be sustained only by taking action against the culprits,” Dahal said.

Also speaking at the programme, CPN (UML) Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali said though the Maoist combatants’ integration and arms management had been completed under the peace process, the achievements had been overshadowed due to the failure to conclude the transitional justice process. He opined that everyone should accept the fact that transitional justice has been delayed as they have not been able to treat the problems of the people affected by the conflict as their own.

Senior advocate RadheshyamAdhikari said transitional justice could not be concluded by forgetting the essence of the peace agreement and stressed the need to conclude it through national and international understanding. “A lot of work has been done to convert armed war into peace, now the remaining work of the peace agreement has to be concluded soon.

The book covers the transitional justice journey in Nepal, various aspects of transitional justice, international practice, transitional justice: travelogue, Nepal’s future course of peace process and some articles.#nepal #political #rss
