Chitwan, June 16: The Nepal Peasants’ Federation has submitted a memorandum with various eight-point demands to the Prime Minister.
In the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ through the Chief District Officer, the government has been requested to solve the problems of the farmers. The memo urges the government to provide the amount due to the dairy farmers through the state-run Dairy Development Corporation and the private sector dairy industry as it has been in arrears for six months.
It is stated in the memorandum that milk producers are yet to receive payment of Rs 4 billion. Similarly, due to the storm that came in the month of May, there was damage to the bananas planted by 700 farmers in different parts of the district. The federation has demanded for collecting loss details and providing reasonable compensation, federation chair Neelkantha Rijal informed.
In the memorandum, it has been demanded to make a permanent arrangement for the supply of chemical fertilizers, saying that only 40 per cent of the fertilizers required by the farmers of the district are supplied and that fertilizer will not last even six months. Since 80 per cent of the insurance amount that the farmers get directly has not been received by the insurance provider company, the compensation claim payment amount that the farmers get has been stopped for seven months.
Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav, while receiving the memorandum of the federation, expressed his commitment to send the memorandum with the demand to the Prime Minister’s Office immediately, saying that the demands of the farmers are justified.
