Kanchanpur, March 9: The people displaced by Shuklaphanta National Park have ended their 210-day-long agitation on Monday.
The displaced families ended their agitation in the presence of the newly-elected House of Representatives (HoR) Member Dipakraj Bohora. The displaced families agreed to break their protest after Bohora pledged to take initiatives to resolve their issues for a permanent settlement.
The people displaced while expanding the areas of then Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve are protesting for long demanding resettlement.
In the recent weeks, they had been staging a sit-in by setting up a tent at Banhara area of Krishnapur Municipality-2 in the district.
The newly-elected MP Bohora vowed to prioritize this issue stating that the sufferings of the displaced families were serious.
He argued that a concrete move will be taken for resettlement plan by studying the reports prepared by different commissions in the past. “I will explore the ways to resolution by holding further discussions and interactions with you,” he added.
Chair of the wildlife displaced struggle committee Prem Dutta Bhatta shared that they decided to end the agitation by expressing their confidence on HoR Member Bohora.
