Lalitpur, April 26: Speaker Devraj Ghimire highlighted the importance of photo journalism with its capability to enliven life and immortalize history.
He said this at the fifth photo journalism award distribution ceremony organized by the National Photo Journalists Group in Lalitpur today on the occasion of the National Photo Journalism Day, 2082 BS.
Speaker Ghimire said the journalism is quite challenging profession despite its higher importance. “Institutional initiatives are pivotal for the development of photo journalism, in the era of technology where misinformation can be easily spread. In this context also, photo journalism can portray the truth and the reality of society for centuries”.
He laid emphasis for the State to address the needs of photojournalists and motivate them towards their profession.
Similarly, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka said that photo journalism is credible when it can disseminate verified content impartially.
“Journalism without image is incomplete, journalism through photographs is more important than the written news. It is a great task to portray the scenario of the society by enduring challenges, sorrows and sufferings”, he said.
On the occasion, photo journalists’ group honoured one person each from seven provinces, 15 from different disciplines, one with lifetime achievement award and one posthumously.
Chair of the Group Pradeep Raj Onta, shared that concessional loan has also been arranged from a commercial bank to purchase cameras for photo journalists who have joined the association.
Established in 2053 BS, the organization has been working to enhance the capacity of photojournalists as well as honouring the best journalists engaged in this field every year. #photo #nepal
