PM Oli pledges constitutional amendment through broader consensus

Kathmandu, May 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the government is committed to initiating with the constitution drafting process on the basis of a broader political consensus.

During in his address to a meeting of the House of the Representatives (HoR) today, he said this, adding that the government will make corrections of weaknesses seen in the implementation of the country’s main law.

He was addressing concerns raised during discussions on the government’s policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2081-82 BS (2025-26).

He said efforts will be continued for guaranteeing political stability by giving continuity to a healthy competition among the political parties, mutual dialogue, collaboration and co-existence.

The policies and programmes make commitments to protecting the Constitution and strengthening federal democratic republic by defeating all sorts of potential regressive efforts, according to the Prime Minister who hoped that the respected parliament will remain intact in terms of the policies and programmes aiming to recognising of people’s sacrifices and institutionalizing the achievements.

All infrastructure sector projects have been re-prioritized, reiterates PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the government’s policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2025-26 are neither old nor the same and that all projects in the infrastructure sector have been re-prioritized.

Responding to the questions raised during the discussion on the government’s policies and programmes at today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he reiterated that the nation cannot move ahead without changing the modality of development and construction, the slow pace, and the ‘work in progress’ culture. He emphasized that we need to be clear about where to invest our limited resources and what results we aim to achieve from it.

“Therefore, the proposal to change the modality, pace, and culture of development to address the shortcomings seen in the course of development in this policies and programmes is new. The commitment to implement this in practice is also new. There should be no situation where the initiated projects are stalled,” the Prime Minister said.

He maintained that under the declared policy to complete the assigned works, the policy of reviewing the national pride projects, completing the ongoing projects in the fiscal year 2025-26, and determining the timeline to finish them within the current term of the House of Representatives is new.

PM Oli stated that the policy to develop a ‘business plan’ that includes the interests of investors and creditors such as ‘cash flow, risk mitigation, and legal security’ and evaluation of ‘feasibility, risks, and returns’ while creating new projects for infrastructure development, before the expression of interest and commitment by stakeholders of the projects is also new.

The Prime Minister informed the parliamentarians that the policy proposed by the government agencies aims to focus on the development of entrepreneurship, production, productivity, and job creation, and to commercialize agriculture and build infrastructure through cooperation, coordination, and collaboration among the three levels of government.

Prime Minister Oli further said that a new roadmap for the National Educational Reform Programme would be prepared and the policies would be proposed to make education accessible, of quality, and life-oriented.

He said that the policy of integrating all public hospitals into a unified online service and linking all health-related assistance and facility programmes to a unified health insurance system will make the restructured health insurance scheme sustainable.

Sagarmatha Sambaad is for solving problems of planet and its people

Likewise, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the government is organizing the ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad (Dialogue)’ to seek solutions to common problems related to the future of humanity and the Earth.

“Let us ensure the future of the planet and the humanity; for this purpose, we will host the Sagarmatha Sambaad in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18,” PM Oli said in a video message today in the context of the Sagarmatha Dialogue.

The Prime Minister has expressed concern over the adverse situations arising from climate change and the continued growing pollution of our surrounding environment, mentioning that a dialogue is being organized to convey the message that everyone must be aware to prevent the deteriorating environment of the country from worsening further and to ensure its preservation.

“Our activities should not spoil the Earth’s environment. Now let us clean up the environment that has been damaged by our activities. And, may our future generations live in a clean, safe and beautiful environment tomorrow,’ the Prime Minister stated in the video message.

He mentioned that the Sagarmatha Sambaad plays a crucial role in understanding the relationship between the mountains and the sea, contributing to environmental issues of the mountains, from the formation of rivers to cooling the environment, and that not understanding it properly or ignoring it is detrimental to humanity.

He emphasized that since environmental conservation is a global shared problem, a collective effort from the world’s inhabitants is essential for its solution.

“It is essential to work on controlling carbon emissions and other elements that harm the environment, and also to advance efforts to protect the environment. For this, people of the world, let us gather at one place to discuss, identify the problems, and strive to find solutions to them from a single forum,” the Prime Minister stated in his message.
