Pokhara, Dec 17: Pokhara Metropolitan City (PMC), which was observing its establishment day on Fagun 27 of Nepali calendar till last year, has decided to mark it today (Poush 2).
The local level took the decision to change the establishment day and its observation after realizing the historical facts and evidences it found lately.
Mayor Dhanraj Acharya informed that historical evidence showed Pokhara municipality was established on Poush 2, 2016 BS. The city then had as many as 5,000 people. On its 364th day, it was named municipal panchayat.
During the celebration today, PMC is honouring nine persons from Pokhara who have played significant roles in language, literature, art, education, health, agriculture, science and technology, sports, tourism, social service and environmental protection.
Each honoured personality is receiving Rs 200202 cash, copper plaque, shawl and medal. The awarded ones will be named ‘Navratna’. Even a morning rally is being held from Chipledhunga to Sabha Griha with cultural pageants as part of the anniversary celebration. #nepal #pokhara
