HoR meeting postponed due to lack of quorum

House of Representatives

Kathmandu, Feb 16: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today has been postponed after failing to achieve the required quorum.

The meeting was put off six hours after it had started in absence of quorum. While a proposal seeking deliberations on the Nepali Citizenship (Second Amendment) Bill-2081 BS was being tabled in the meeting, Rastriya Swatantra Party’s parliamentarian Nisha Dangi requested House Speaker Devraj Ghimire to count the number of lawmakers present in the meeting, claiming that there was no quorum.

Speaker Ghimire then directed the Secretariat to determine the quorum after ringing bell for three minutes.Although the required quorum for presenting any proposal seeking a decision is 69, today’s meeting was short of one HoR member.

Thus, the Speaker, citing the lack of quorum, appraised the House that the remaining programmes in the agenda of the day were removed, thereby postponing the meetingAs per the Article 94 of the Constitution of Nepal, at least one-fourth of the HoR members must be present for presenting any proposal for decisions or posing queries.
The HoR is meeting again at 1:00 pm on Monday.#nepal #rss #political
