Kathmandu, Nov 20: Various political parties and civil society organizations have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, urging him to take a stand against Israel’s ongoing war on Palestine people. The representatives, including senior vice-chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) Narayan Kaji Shrestha, met Prime Minister Oli at his residence in Baluwatar today.
The groups emphasized the need for Nepal to actively oppose Israel’s actions against Palestine and Lebanon and to present its position on international platforms. The memorandum called for a shift in Nepal’s foreign policy from its traditional neutrality to taking a clear stance against injustice in the world, especially in forums like the United Nations.
The memorandum also urged the government to take steps to protect Nepali citizens caught in the conflict, including Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student abducted by Hamas on October 7, and thousands of Nepali youths in Israel. They called for their safe repatriation to Nepal during the war.
Prime Minister Oli reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to world peace, human rights, and standing against injustice. He clarified that neutrality does not mean being passive in the face of injustice, emphasizing that Nepal would not align itself with military alliances but would always fight for justice and human rights. “We stand for peace, but not for passive peace. We stand for a just peace, upholding human rights,” according to PM Oli’s secretariat.
The meeting was attended by prominent political figures, including Maoist Centre General Secretary Dev Prasad Gurung, Janamorcha Nepal leader Durga Paudel, CPN (Unified Socialist) Secretary Sher Bahadur Kunwar, Revolutionary Communist Party leader CP Gajurel, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal Foreign Affairs head Arjun Thapa, and activist Shyam Shrestha, among others. #palestine #israel #gaza #lebanon
